Second Visit as good as the first
Just returned from a month at the Tropical, since my experience there was so good first time around - see my prevoius review. Definitely not luxury - it's a simple, safe, VERY CLEAN, apartment - and I'm glad to say that standards are just the same as last time I visited. Staff extremely friendly and helpful. The "kitchen" is basic - just a hob, fridge and a sink, no microwave. Use a pan for a cuppa. No iron/board either. Balconies are not large, but enough to sit out on. The two roof-top pools are small, but cute. Loungers are limited, so get up there early in peak-time. Location is the best you could wish for - right in the middle of town, overlooking the main square, so it can be noisy until 12. They clean the square 2-3 am, but if you're asleep by then, it won't wake you. Puerto has a LOT of hills (don't stay in La Paz, if you want to avoid them - that would take a taxi ride home at night). However, the Tropical is on the flat, so you needn't walk a single hill if you choose not to. The harbour is within view, and just 1 minute walk away, beaches are 10 minutes pleasant walk on the flat. Bus station is just a couple of minutes away at the back. Lots of restaurants close-by (I didn't use the hotel to eat). Good supermarkets about 5-10 minutes walk up the hill at the back (Mercadona or Hiper-Dino - ask staff). Reception sells 3L water. If your TV doesn't seem to work, ask Reception for a remote control - 10 Euros fully refundable deposit. All in all, I love it here, and would stay again, as would my parents (in their 70s), who also use it. Highly recommended for the price!
The best thing about my stay was…
Convenience of location
